The Town of Smithtown is looking for some help from the community to make sure local families have everything they need for Thanksgiving.
The Smithtown Youth Bureau is collecting donations for their annual Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family Food Drive. Donations will be accepted on Saturday, November 7, and Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Smithtown Emergency Food Pantry on 90 Edgewater Ave.
The food pantry provides families in need with a turkey for Thanksgiving. The community is being asked to help fill the rest of the table by donating the sides, desserts, and other holiday staples.
Residents are encouraged to put together a complete meal with:
- 4 cans of vegetables
- 2 cans of cranberry sauce
- 1 large or 2 small cans of yams
- 1 64-ounce container of juice or juice boxes
- 1 cake, brownie or cookie mix
- 1 box of instant potatoes
- 2 boxes of Stove Top stuffing
- 3 cans of fruit
- 2 cans of turkey gravy
Donors are also asked to include a card for the family receiving the meal. Extra treats like hot chocolate, cookies, candy, and other nonperishable items are welcome. Members of the Smithtown Youth Advisory Board will also be on hand to collect donations and help put the meal boxes together.
All donations will go to the Smithtown Emergency Food Pantry, which has been helping local residents facing food insecurity since 1984.
