The first Ronald McDonald house in Suffolk County is much closer to completion.
Officials from the organization hosted a beam signing event for what is set to be a 30-bedroom house that will provide free lodging for families of pediatric patients at Stony Brook University Hospital.
The site is just steps away from the hospital.
The organization also announced it has received a $5 million gift from the state government.
Local legislators celebrated the achievement.
"The beam signing at Suffolk County's first Ronald McDonald House is a significant step towards providing families who are in hardship with much needed comfort and hope," Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said.
