A man was rescued from a muddy marsh in Sunken Meadow Creek in Kings Park.

Fire officials say the man slipped and fell in while trying to catch a runaway dog around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, they say the man was thigh deep in mud behind a house along Sunken Meadow Road.

"We laid down some ladders to get the gentleman out there, and they started digging around him,” said Kings Park Fire Chief Michael Frail. “We were able to free him pretty quickly, and by that time we had set, some plywood out. So they came back on the ladder and everybody walked right to shore."

No injuries were reported. No information was provided as to if the dog was located.
