The Suffolk County Hate Crimes Unit is investigating graffiti discovered at a construction site for the Islamic Center of Mastic-Shirley.

Police said a 911 caller reported the graffiti, which was found on a banner at the site, at approximately 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine condemned the incident in a statement posted on social media Saturday:

"Hate has no home in Suffolk County. This afternoon, graffiti was discovered at the site of a new Islamic center in Shirley. Police are investigating the incident as a hate matter and are pursuing all leads."
