Fifteen people were arrested overnight in Suffolk County after a street takeover in Medford, according to police.
Suffolk County police said the Street Takeover Task Force learned through intelligence and social media monitoring that a takeover was being planned for Friday night.
Investigators tracked the group as it moved through several locations and prevented takeovers at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip, as well as Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue.
Police said the group was ultimately intercepted at Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford at about 1 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said numerous vehicles blocked Sawgrass Drive, with drivers allegedly operating recklessly and performing stunts, donuts and burnouts in the roadway.
Members of the Street Takeover Task Force responded and arrested 15 people ranging in age from 18 to 23.
Seven of those arrested had their vehicles impounded.
All 15 are charged with participating in an unlawful speed contest, while some also face charges for spectating an unlawful speed contest.
