A Westhampton man accused of chasing someone with a weapon was arrested Wednesday night in Speonk, according to police.
Officers received a call around 5:30 p.m. reporting a male suspect armed with a knife pursuing an individual near Montauk Highway and North Phillips Avenue.
After arriving at the scene, police determined that 37-year-old Elias Tintichitay had menaced a person known to him with a small hatchet.
He was apprehended without incident, and no injuries were reported. The charges against him include menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Further investigation revealed that Tintichitay was also wanted for a previous incident against the same victim on May 30. Police say it occurred at the same location.
He was charged with additional counts of menacing and weapons possession as a result of this incident.
Police say he was released on an appearance ticket and scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
