The East Ramapo Central School District continues to search for a new superintendent less than two months until interim Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo leaves for another role.
As News 12 previously reported, DiCarlo will become the interim superintendent for the Pawling school district on July 9.
Ultimately, the district will have a new superintendent when the new school year begins, but who will it be?
News 12 learned more about the process of finding one during a school board meeting earlier this week, which seemed to show tension between board members and state monitors.
During the back and forth, it was said that a search firm had presented the board with two candidates.
The board picked one but it could not be finalized.
Then, another option discussed was to keep interim Superintendent DiCarlo longer.
DiCarlo shared he would not be able to do that for personal reasons.
"I've been under a lot of stress that last couple of weeks because of this and I struggled to make a decision because I took this job wanting to make a difference," he said.
Carole Anderson, who once served on the board, was at that meeting.
She spoke highly of DiCarlo to News 12, pointing to all he has done the last school year.
For now, questions remain about who will lead? Will their role be short-term? Will it be decided before July?
That would be the district's fifth change in leadership since 2020.
Debra Wortham left after the 2019-2020 school year. She served for five years.
Raymond Giamartino then served from 2020-2021 in an interim role.
Clarence Ellis served from 2021 - 2024.
DiCarlo served from 2024 - 2025 in an interim role.
News 12 has not heard from the school board or state Education Department for comment on the process.
