A woman is accused of driving high with her young child in the car before crashing into another vehicle and through a fence in Suffolk County Tuesday afternoon.

Kimberly Shortell, 41, of Ronkonkoma, was operating a 2025 Hyundai Sonata when she dropped her 10-year-old daughter off at Islip Town Beach around 4 p.m., according to Suffolk police.

Once the girl exited the car at the location on Rosevale Avenue in Ronkonkoma, Shortell drove into a parked vehicle, then through a chained link fence, and subsequently onto a tennis court.

No one was on the tennis court at the time of the incident, police say.

The driver was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

She will be charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 15 years old (Leandra’s Law), driving while ability impaired by drugs, and endangering the welfare of a child when she is arraigned at a later date.
