May is here and so is a BIG change on our weather pattern

April was mild & dry across the Hudson Valley, but much needed rain is on the way, and the timing is not great for weekend plans.

WHAT TO KNOW
  • Cool and sunny today, light wind
  • Hot and humid Friday with a mix of sun and clouds and stray storms.
  • An isolated thunderstorm overnight, then a stray storm after 2 p.m. on Friday.
  • Wet weekend: Warm and humid Saturday with a morning shower, then evening storms.
  • Lower than usual forecast confidence next week: Rain continues Sunday with the potential for heavy rain Sunday into Tuesday.
It's a gorgeous Thursday with sunshine and pleasant, cool conditions but changes are on the way. Tomorrow is hot and humid with a few storms, and the chance for rain increases for Saturday and Sunday. Here's everything you need to know.
TODAY: Grab a light jacket
It's a cool start to the morning in the Hudson Valley, but it's dry and sunny for most of the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the upper 60s with a light wind.
TONIGHT: Humid with a storm
A warm front will push in after midnight and along with it, will be one or 2 downpours. A few rumbles of thunder are possible as well. The Friday morning commute will feature an isolated shower and patchy fog with temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
FRIDAY: Sticky & Stormy
Most of the day on Friday is dry, but it's a good idea to have the umbrella in the car because spotty showers and thunderstorms will build with the daytime heating. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with afternoon highs in the mid 80s, cooler if a thunderstorm passes. Pop up storms are possible starting 2 p.m. to midnight.
SATURDAY: Wet, but not a total washout
Although we can't guarantee a specific time for dry weather on Saturday, your best chance to avoid the rain will be in the morning. It's a humid and warm day so rain is possible throughout the day, but it's more likely in the afternoon and evening. Rain could be heavy at times later in the day.
Heavy rain next week
Forecast confidence is lower than usual for next week because the low-pressure system that is delivering rain on Saturday is expected to get "stuck" and even "retrograde" which means it'll move backwards over the area. This setup will pump moisture from the Gulf and Atlantic and could potentially bring heavy rain on Sunday and Monday. This risk lingers into Tuesday before the storm likely clears out for the middle and end of next week.
