A man is accused of being involved in a scam to try to steal nearly $50,000 from a Nassau County senior citizen.

According to detectives, the 84-year-old Manorhaven resident received a security alert on her computer on Sunday, from what she thought was Citibank’s fraud department.

The woman called the number that was given and was told she had to withdraw $30,000 to give to an FBI agent that would come to meet her.

Following the meetup, where the victim handed over the money to an unknown male, she realized she was likely being scammed, Nassau police say.

A few days later, on Thursday, Sept. 17, the senior alerted detectives when the same suspect contacted her and asked for an additional $18,000.

Han Bing Wu, 31, of Flushing, arrived for this second retrieval and was placed under arrest without incident, though authorities tell News 12 he was not the same individual who met with the victim during first incident.

Additionally, Wu was allegedly in possession of a substance believed to be Ketamine at the time of arrest and will face charges of attempted grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance when he is arraigned on Friday.
