Suffolk County's Office of Emergency Management has notified the public of a high rip current risk until Saturday evening.

The notification applies to southwest and southeast Suffolk, and the OEM is advising anyone visiting beaches to stay out of the surf.

As News 12 reported, 46 people had to be rescued from rip currents at Smith Point Beach on Friday, with around 35 others rescued at Robert Moses State Park.

Lifeguard staff says 20 people have been rescued at Smith Point Beach today as of 3 p.m.

State park officials also say that Heather Hills State Park is on restricted swim.
