The Putnam County Health Department has confirmed a measles case in Mahopac and is investigating anyone who may have had contact with the individual on Wednesday, May 28 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The individual is said to have visited Arturo’s Tavern, a popular trattoria, while considered contagious.

According to the Health Department, the individual contracted the illness while abroad.

Measles is not considered a food-bourne illness but can live for up to two hours in airspace after an infected person leaves.

The infected person can also spread measles from four days before to four days after the rash.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection with symptoms including a fever, full body rash, runny nose, sore throat and watery eyes.

Officials have confirmed the unidentified individual is no longer contagious.

Anyone who believes they might have been exposed is asked to contact the Putnam County Health Department.
