An East Northport resident says he woke up Wednesday morning to find his vehicle missing from his driveway.
“It wasn't just a piece of metal. It was something I put extra money into and everything,” said Eric Fackiener.
After filing a police report for the stolen vehicle, Fackiener learned that other neighbors had also been impacted.
“Then we heard back later on at 10:00 a.m. , that it happened to be a neighborhood thing, that many more cars were taken and broken into,” he said.
Police confirmed that three vehicles were reported stolen Wednesday morning. Fackiener’s Dodge Durango was stolen on Eighth Street, an Acura was stolen on 10th Avenue and a Mercedes-Benz was stolen on Sixth Street.
Security video from a neighbor shows three vehicles pulling up before heading toward the soon-to-be stolen car. A few minutes later, all four vehicles are seen driving away together.
“I put love into it. So yes, I would like it back. It was my baby,” Fackiener said.
Other residents said their vehicles were broken into and that thieves took valuables from inside. Security footage timestamps indicate the group was in the neighborhood for at least an hour before leaving.
Keith Allocco said his cameras captured someone wearing dark clothing, gloves and a ski mask looking into his vehicles. He said nothing was stolen because the cars were locked.
“Are they going to come back another day? What's going to happen?... It's a little unnerving, well, jarring to have somebody violate your space like that and go through your stuff,” Allocco said.
The incidents have left residents concerned about safety in the neighborhood.
“It's terrible. It's in your neighborhood and close to home. It's coming and violating your property and who knows what else,” said another neighbor, Glen Bell.
