A new project to restore the Baxter Beach shoreline in Port Washington is now underway.
Officials broke ground Thursday on the $7 million effort, which includes the construction of a boardwalk bridge over the eroded shoreline.
The bridge will restore access to the area for Baxter Estates residents and first responders.
"The beach was so badly eroded and damaged over years of storms and just wear and tear that it really became dangerous," said Nora Haagenson the Baxter Estates Village Mayor.
The project is expected to be completed by early December.
